Bars run from the book minimum to maximum with a little headroom either side. Blue line is the book mid-point (or the box-label value where MSC prints one); the gold dot is your setting, red if outside the range.

Live tested settings

Settings run on the machine with MSC Edge applications engineering, for the insert selected in the preset box. Use carries the cutting speed, feed and depth of cut across to any workpiece diameter.

How it's calculated

n = 1000 · Vc ÷ (π · D) at the workpiece diameter, capped at the machine's maximum rpm (the cards then show the real Vc you get). Vf = n · fn. In the other direction Vc = π · D · n ÷ 1000 and fn = Vf ÷ n.

Chip thickness: hex = fn · sin κ, so a 93° or 95° holder gives almost the full feed as chip, while a 45° holder thins it to 71%. Theoretical finish uses the nose radius: Ra ≈ fn² ÷ (32 · rε), in µm. Metal removal Q = Vc · ap · fn in cm³/min. Time per pass is cut length ÷ Vf.

Book ranges for ap and fn are MSC's per-insert figures from the brochure. Cutting speed is printed on the box, not in the brochure, so it is embedded only for the grades we have a box for (MS15 and PMKS20) and left for you to enter on the others until MSC confirms them.
